Pyla, leaving together seaparately
doc/beta/1:33/col/52'/2003
Synopsis
Since 1974 all Cyprus has been divided... All? One village stood out against the division finding itself in the middle, neither on one side of the Dead Zone dividing Cyprus, nor on the other. But life in the Dead Zone is not easy.
The documentary explores the precarious lives of the people who live in Pyla/Pile, this village with two names.
In Pyla the church and the mosque stand side by side. Or do they try to block each other? The voice of the hoja mingles with that of the priest. Or does each try to overpower the other? Two coffee shops in the square opposite each other, one with a Greek flag, the other with a Turkish flag and one checkpoint with the UN flag. So who controls Pyla?
The people of Pyla were the only ones having daily contact in Cyprus. Suddenly, in April 2003, the checkpoints in Cyprus opened and people started to cross…
